Looking for a tour to exciting new places? Come and view the big 5 while in their natural habitat, the vast savanna of Kenya. Tourism is huge in Kenya, but greater still, are the spectacular views of some of the world’s largest mammals. Each of the big 5, rhino, lion, leopard, elephant and buffalo can be found in the game parks of Kenya.

The first of the “5” is the endangered rhino. In the 1900’s, many believed that the rhinos would go extinct. Poachers had so depleted the population that park security for these animals greatly increased, along with the start of many nurseries. For example, Parks such as the Nairobi National Park are sanctuaries where the rhino, the most endangered Kenyan animal, can reside. Because of the great protections of these parks and nurseries, the number of rhinos has been going up in the last two decades. While going on the Safari Walk in Nairobi, you may even be able to touch a baby rhino as it toddles along on its wobbly little legs.

Two of the “5”, are the big cats. The lion is and always has been called the noblest of beast, and is probably the most well known of the “big 5”. While in Kenya you must see the “king of the beasts”. The male lion is a great sight to see, so be sure to bring a camera. If you’re lucky, you may be able to view a hunt and the kill. Another great cat that is in the Big 5 is the Leopard. This member of the “5” is probably the most dangerous. The leopard hunts mostly at night, and is one of the hardest to sight. The best time to get a glimpse of this beautiful cat is in the evening, just before nightfall. Leopards are big, tough, fast, fierce and incredibly agile. They favor spending the day napping in trees, while their spots help them to blend in with the light filtering through the trees.

The “tembo” or elephant in Swahili, is the largest land-going mammal. At birth, a baby elephant is 120 to 330 pounds, which is only about one fifth of the adult male’s weight. These beautiful beasts roam through the plains and small forests, bathing, taking dust baths or just munching away at the bountiful supply of food. Touring in Kenya will give you close up views of the biggest of the “big 5”. The last, the buffalo, is definitely not least. This big powerful mammal could push down a small tree! Even lions and leopard fear trying to take down a full grown buffalo. An interesting fact about them is that when threatened the herd will form a circle facing out with the young and weak in the middle. This protectiveness is a great example of the loyalty the herd has for one another.

All of these animals are unique in their own way, and are well worth a trip to Kenya to see. Tour in Kenya to experience the spectacular “Big 5”, it will create memories to tell for years to come! Get trinkets to show off to your friends at home, of the legacy of the “Big 5”.

Kenya, a major tourist attraction located in east Africa along the equator, is home to the second highest mountain in Africa. Although shorter than Kilimanjaro, Mt. Kenya offers a much harder climb. Not only is the long trek difficult and laborious, but the extreme cold and permanent glaciers require gear and perseverance.

Climbing the 17057 foot mountain is an experience of a life time. Making it to the top and seeing the breathtaking view spread out before you is worth everything it took to make it up to the top. Take a picture by the sign at the peak to show your friends, or have a snow ball fight in Africa that you won’t forget. At the summit, Batian, look into the extinct volcanic crater, gaze at the glaciers below, the clouds beneath your feet, or het a golf ball into the crater. All of these thrilling experiences are available to you.

During your climb up and your descent, feast your eyes on nature’s fantastic display of colors, sounds, and sights of rare African animals. The mountain itself and the surrounding lands are protected by the Mount Kenya National Park. Many animals such as the large cape-buffalo thrive in this safe lush environment. Other species in the park include zebra, antelope, many bird species, and monkeys. All of these can be seen during your hike up the mountain towards your goal.

The climb, including ascent and descent, should take 3-6 days depending on your speed and desired location. Guides and pack carriers can be hired at the base of the mountain at the park headquarters. The many choices for climbing allow for a large diverse experience. There are many routes up the mountain, 8 walking, and several others for intense rock climbing and scaling. For the less adventurous, the walking routes are strongly suggested. After each day of the climb, a camp is set for the nights rest. These camps usually include tents or bunkhouses, and are generally comfortable and cozy. The guides will provide food for each day. Each guide has been specially trained for the climb, and has been up the mountain countless times. This means that each one knows how to react to any situation that could arise. Kenya takes pride in their guides, who will guarantee a safe and pleasant and safe climb.

If you are planning to take a trip to Kenya or you are just looking for adventure, Mt. Kenya would be a great place to go. Not only will you have the experience of climbing one of the most famous mountains in Africa, but you will also have the opportunity to see all the wild life and attractions in Kenya. While you climb you will create memories that will last for a life time! When you reach the top you will be greeted with a picturesque view that will stay in your memory for ever. This is wonderful vacation for those who are looking for adventure or just a bonding time with friends or family. Mt. Kenya is truly a gem of Africa.

While touring in Kenya, you will see many great works of art, one of which is the world renowned soap stone carvings. The natives of Kenya are highly skilled at their work and produce products that will amaze you as well as enhance your home. The work of a soap stone carver is not at all easy; in fact it may take many weeks to finish a single product.

Kisii is a small town around an hours drive south of Nairobi, and is the center headquarters for the artisans. Once you arrive their, prepare to be surprised by the brilliant work that takes place there. From animals, to entire chess boards, to simple candle holders, the smooth cold stone blocks are turned into wonders. These rare stones are only found in Kisii Kenya. The men mine large quantities of the soft stone into blocks to be used the various items. First, a block is taken and hewn into the rough desired shape. After that is the long process of smoothing and shaping. When the product is finished it is then washed, dried, sometimes painted, and waxed with cobra wax. This process is very old, and they have been using it for many years to continually create fine quality soap stone products.

You can look for them most anywhere, as many are shipped to the US, France, Japan, Great Britain, as well as many others countries. Kenya is however, the best place to buy them. Just one item can light up your home and create an African appearance. Show off your African experience by wearing your Kenyan soapstone jewelry. Decorate your mantles, or your children’s room with these masterpieces. Not only will you be able to add a nice touch to your home, it is also an authentic and unique addition to your home. You could also surprise your friends at work with a soapstone buffalo on your office desk. Get a rhino, lion, zebra, croc, giraffe, leopard or elephant to show your friends back home. Also look at soapstone boxes, spoons, hearts, Africa shapes, Kenya Shapes, eggs, fruit, earrings, bowls and plates, the list goes on. While visiting the soapstone market you can place an order for a special creation that will be ready within a month, you could get your name, or a friends name, forever inscribed in the unique stone.

Even seeing the shops of the soapstone carvers would be an unforgettable experience for you. So, if you ever have the chance to visit Kenya, you should stop buy the only place in the world where soap stone is found, Kisii. Here you will be able to see for your self the beauty of the soap stone and marvel at the way it is made. Weather you choose to simply observe the colors and shapes or to buy some of these decorations, you will not be disappointed. These bright and cheery objects will certainly brighten up you home and put you memories “in” stone.

If you are planning to take a safari in Kenya, you have many options to choose from! You could take a luxury camping safari in the Mara, or enjoy beautiful lodges with many game rides. On a safari in Kenya, you will be able to enjoy the experience of seeing wild animals first-hand and watch them while they live their unpredictable lifestyles.

Places to go for a safari in Kenya: There are so many different places you can go for a safari in Kenya. If you would like to see the many birds of Kenya, you could go to Lake Naivasha and see the rainbow spectrum of exotic birds, including the pink flamingo, which surrounds the edge of the lake. It is a breathtaking view for the human eye, and if you are a bird lover you will find this a truly amazing experience.

If your idea of a safari in Kenya is to follow the herds and watch the lion as he stalks his prey, then there are many ideal places for you to go. The most well known would be the Maasi Mara, which is a game park in the southwestern part of Kenya. There you could either camp in the park or just take game rides with experienced guides so you can see “the big five” (Lions, Buffalo, Leopards, rhino and elephants) along with other animals.

If you love all the animals and want to see everything there is to see in a safari in Kenya you should take a tour that hits every single major game reserve. This was you will be able to enjoy birds, the big five and all the breath taking views in Kenya.

Things to do during a safari in Kenya: There are many awesome things you can do during your stay in Kenya. One of the things that you could do is to take a hot air balloon ride over a game reserve and see the bird’s eye view of the animals and their lives. Another thing you could do is to go on sundowns in the reserve where you are staying. Sundowns are a time when you can watch the African sun set while enjoying the surroundings of the wild in Kenya. There are also picnics you can take or nature walks that would make your time more enjoyable. Another great thing to do would be to take a dhow ride along the coast of Mombasa. Have a memorable dinner on the dhow.

For those of you who want to see the wildlife of Africa, Kenya is a great place to visit. Kenya is famous for its wildlife that roams the grasslands of Africa. You will be able to spot a large amount of animals, from the tiny dick-dick to the enormous elephant. By taking a guide and a four-wheel drive car, you can spy on the majestic lioness stalking her kill or the watch the leopard lounge in the tall acacia trees. The wildlife of Kenya is the perfect place for you.

Migration Wildlife:
If you are touring during the migration season (July – October), you will have the chance of a lifetime! During the migration season, all of the animals are moving to different plains and grounds. You will see herds of wildebeests and other animals running all together in massive groups back and forth across the hills. Not only will you see the herds, you will also get the chance to see “The Big Five”. The Big Five are the main parts of the Kenyan Wildlife that everyone wants to see, and when you do, you will not want to look away. The Big Five is made up of the lion, elephant, rhino, leopard and buffalo. Your trained guides will know the best places to spot them and you should be able to see most of them.

Parks you will visit:
If you want to see a large amount of wildlife, then you can go through many game parks. One of the most famous game parks is the Mara, a game park that is full of amazing animals, plants and other beauties. There you will stay at nice lodges that overlook the plains and their animals, or you can stay in the luxury tents that rest right on the plains of the Mara. There you will easily be able to spot all of the wildlife of Kenya, along with waking up to the singing of the beautiful birds. Another one of the parks that will help to make your stay a true highlight would be Sweetwater’s game reserve. This reserve is a sanctuary for chimpanzees and also holds a large amount of rhino and other wildlife. This park is truly a lovely place; you will be able to see the Big Five and many other interesting animals.

These are only a few of the great places and things that you can do during your stay. Along with the safaris you can have sundowns (when you watch glorious African sunset while sitting in a lovely “wild” location) or picnics in the bush. All of these are fun and exciting and ensure that you will enjoy the wildlife of Kenya.

Its brother camp, Porini Lion camp, is situated in Olare Orok Conservancy. This camp is on the banks of a beautiful river.
